3MTT Rivers State Impact Summit: A Celebration of Innovation and Growth
An exciting day filled with creativity, innovation, and loads of inspiration
The 3MTT Rivers State Impact Summit, held on Friday, December 6, 2024, was an exciting day filled with creativity, innovation, and inspiration. It brought together young tech enthusiasts, industry leaders, and community members to share groundbreaking ideas, connect with one another, and celebrate technological progress.
The summit marked the grand finale for Cohort 2 in Rivers State. Fellows showcased their remarkable achievements and wrapped up the 3MTT Tech4Good Hackathon in style. The summit was all about celebrating milestones, looking back on fellows' journeys from cohort 2, and setting the stage for even more growth in the future.
The summit doors opened bright and early at 9:00 AM, giving everyone time to check in and mingle before the event officially kicked off. By 10:45 AM, with the event moderator on top of her game, the room was buzzing with excitement as we started with the national anthem which also served as the opening prayer. Joy Nwaiwu, the 3MTT Rivers State Community Manager, welcomed everyone with a heartfelt speech. She shared what makes 3MTT so special in Rivers State:
“Here in Rivers State, the 3MTT mission takes on an even deeper significance. Our state is rich in natural and human resources, home to young people with immense potential, creativity, and drive. However, many of our youths lack the resources or access to opportunities that can unleash this potential. That is where the 3MTT program comes in, not just as a training program, but as a bridge to a brighter future.”
Joy’s pride in the Cohort 2 fellows was evident as she highlighted how they’ve gone from little or no tech experience to becoming creators of real-world solutions. She encouraged everyone to connect, be inspired, and work together to make Rivers State a hub for innovation.
Hackathon Finalists: The Big Ideas
One of the day’s highlights was the pitch and demo session by the top five hackathon finalist teams. Each team wowed the audience with their creative solutions:
Team A & G Synergy developed TrackDem. TrackDem is an attendance management software that uses unique, auto-generated IDs to ensure accurate and accessible attendance records. This innovation enhances accountability and simplifies attendance tracking for various applications.
Team Fuel Finder is addressing Nigeria’s perennial fuel challenges, Fuel Finder is an app that provides real-time information on fuel availability, pricing, and scarcity updates. It includes online payment and booking features, offering users a hassle-free fueling experience.
Team Pathfinder developed EduTracker. EduTracker is an offline AI-powered app that helps teachers and parents monitor students’ progress. It’s easy to use, works without data, and is designed to ensure no child is left behind, especially in rural areas.
Team SkillSync developed Collabify. Collabify connects learners with like-minded peers for teamwork and shared learning experiences. Whether you’re a student, professional, or hobbyist, this platform helps you find your perfect learning buddy.
Team T-Fare Titans developed a digital fare payment system. T-Fare brings cashless payments to the transport sector, reducing disputes over change and making transactions smoother for everyone. It’s a big step towards modernizing transportation in Nigeria.
The judges asked insightful questions and gave valuable feedback after each presentation. The energy in the room was electric as attendees cheered on the teams.
After the intense pitch session, everyone took a break to network and recharge. The raffle draw, hosted by the 3MTT Ekiti State Community Manager, added some extra excitement. Prizes like notepads, T-shirts, and a brand-new Tablet were up for grabs. To qualify, Cohort 2 fellows had to post about the summit using our hashtags: #3MTTRiversSummit, #3MTTHackathon20, and #TechForGood. The lucky winner of the tablet was Ejator Uhrorho from CAD Consulting ALC.
Conversations with Stakeholders
The second half of the event featured a stakeholder engagement session, led by Bruce Lucas, the Founder of Olotu Square. The discussion centered around how the government and private sector can support local talent.
Uche Aniche also shared tips on securing funding, grants, and other opportunities for startups and businesses. These sessions were packed with insights and actionable advice.
Some fellows took the stage to share their personal experiences in the 3MTT program. Their stories of growth and transformation were inspiring. Our event partner, Hagion International Limited, also spoke about their forward-thinking work and how they’re committed to driving technology forward.
Awards, Recognition, and the Big Announcement
